dr Izabella Wentz, Pharm.D., FASCP is a passionate, innovative and solution-oriented clinical pharmacist. She had a passion for healthcare from a young age, inspired by her mother, Dr. Marta Nowosadzka, MD.
Fascinated by science and the effects of substances on the human body, Izabella decided to study pharmacy with a dream of one day finding a cure for a disease. An avid learner and goal-oriented student, she received the PharmD. Graduated from Midwestern University Chicago College of Pharmacy (Doctor of Pharmacy) at the age of 23.
dr Wentz is trained in functional medicine through the Institute for Functional Medicine, Kalish Functional Medicine and the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine. She is a Fellow of the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists and holds certifications in Medication Therapy Management and Advanced Diabetes Care from the American Pharmacists Association. In 2013 she received the Excellence in Innovation Award from the Illinois Pharmacists Association.
During her time as a consulting pharmacist, Dr. Wentz worked on thousands of complicated patient cases, often caused by rare diseases, as part of an interdisciplinary consulting team. Regarded as an expert in clinical pharmacology, she was challenged to study cause and effect by conducting extensive drug therapy reviews to identify and correct adverse drug reactions. She quickly became adept at finding and evaluating new research to address her clients' unique challenges. Although trained as a pharmacist, she was a passionate advocate of lifestyle interventions, which often helped patients far more than medication ever did.
Later in her career, she was given the opportunity to lead a nationwide drug safety initiative and transitioned to a career in drug safety and healthcare quality improvement. There she developed an expertise for the holistic system approach, quick testing of small changes, result tracking and root cause analysis.
After being diagnosed with Hashimoto's thyroiditis in 2009, Dr. Wentz is surprised at the lack of knowledge about lifestyle interventions for Hashimoto's, hypothyroidism and autoimmune diseases. She decided to embrace developing lifestyle interventions as her personal mission to heal herself and others with Hashimoto.
After two years researching Hashimoto's and hypothyroidism, she decided to combine new knowledge with her quality improvement expertise to test rapid changes on herself that led her to discover the root cause of her condition. She summarized three years of research and two years of testing in her book:Hashimoto's Thyroiditis: Lifestyle Interventions to Find and Treat the Root Cause.

The Mission of Dr. wentz
"I didn't want to give up. I thought all my symptoms were somehow connected... There must be some lifestyle factors that contributed to this condition! There must be ways I can feel better! There must be ways I can help stop its progression... What can I, as a person with this condition, do to give myself the best life possible?”
Thyroid patients are not properly diagnosed.
TSH is not a reliable marker of thyroid function because it can fluctuate, especially in people with Hashimoto's. TPO antibodies are elevated years, sometimes decades, before a change in TSH is observed and can be associated with fatigue, recurrent miscarriage, and many other problems before TSH is affected.
Patients should be better optimized for their medication!
Just because a TSH falls in the "normal" range doesn't mean the drug is dosed correctly. We must treat the patient, not the lab values! Patient symptoms are crucial! As a pharmacist, Dr. Wentz say there are many drugs that contain prodrugs that are not converted to the active drug in the body. T4 is by definition a prodrug and does not always convert to T3! Combination drugs are sometimes required.
Lifestyle interventions are often ignored by mainstream medicine.
Interventions such as eliminating infection, treating nutrient deficiencies, reducing sensitizing foods, and treating adrenal function can help improve symptoms and even reduce or eliminate autoimmunity.
“If you have suffered from fatigue, hair loss, brain fog, weight control, dry skin, depression, muscle aches and the myriad of other symptoms, it is my sincere hope that after conducting the research your life will change for the better I have uncovered. It can help you do what most doctors and most clinicians would find impossible to put Hashimoto into remission!”
