Course details and modules

On the course, you'll study a range of interesting and stimulating subject modules designed to engage you with fascinating topics in psychology, so you can develop sought-after and career-focused skills. Your studies will culminate in choosing an area of ​​psychology that you will focus on and producing your own research project at the end of your final year. When you graduate, you will have the confidence and ability to apply your knowledge of psychology to a range of exciting career paths and further learning opportunities.

Throughout the course you will receive one-to-one support from your academic skills tutors and tutors, as well as frequent invitations to online coffee mornings with your fellow students and staff and in-person academic tutor support sessions. Above all, our academic team, who come from a range of professional and cultural backgrounds, will help you learn through the real world and help you understand how best to put your new skills into practice.

Academic experience

On this course you will be taught by a number of psychological experts. Many of our academics are active in research and have published in academic journals, presented at national and international conferences and authored book chapters on applied psychology. We also have past and continuing practitioners within the team whose expertise centers on the application of psychology in real-world contexts such as organizational, educational, prison, health and clinical settings. As a whole, the team is very active in the professional psychology community by holding workshops and participating in charitable events for organizations such as MIND.

How do we rate you?

Assessments

Unlike on more traditional courses, you do not need to sit exams on the BSc (Hons) Psychology with Foundation Year degree. Your assessments are designed to help you apply your learning to real-word scenarios. This means you will be better prepared to apply the skills you have gained on the course to your professional role after graduation.

As you work through your course modules, you will have the chance to compete with a range of useful assessment methods such as individual reports, case study analyses, role plays, group presentations and reflective and personal independent tasks prepared in consultation with your course module leader. You will take only one exam in this course to fulfill your research method requirements; all other assessments are designed to give you the tools and skills you need in your career.

Role play sessions on this course are designed to give you the unique opportunity to practice real professional situations in a safe environment. You will learn how to provide feedback on psychometrics, conduct a counseling session, provide mental health interventions and more, all guided by your course instructor.

How does it work?

When you choose our full-time blended learning study mode, you have eight hours of scheduled classes spread over two days at the Arden study center of your choice. This is combined with around 25 hours of independent study, which takes place through ilearn, our university campus in the cloud. ilearn contains all the resources you need to study successfully. As a blended learning student, you also have access to our Library Portal, a comprehensive digital library with thousands of journal titles, e-books and a range of academic and industry databases that you can use to research and gain in-depth information about your field of study. At Arden, all your course materials are provided free of charge, removing the need for you to purchase expensive textbooks to successfully study your degree.

Blended learning is the best option for students who prefer the structure of regular face-to-face classes with their tutor and fellow classmates, and is particularly suitable for students who live within commuting or driving distance of one of our UK study centres.

How does it work?

Studying BSc (Hons) Psychology with Foundation Year online gives you the ultimate in convenience. You can enroll at Arden from anywhere in the world and study your degree from home without the requirement to attend classes at a physical location.

Our online students study their degree through iLearn, Arden's university campus in the cloud. iLearn provides everything you need to study at university. It offers an integrated virtual learning experience, including your virtual classroom, lecture hall and access to our library portal. The portal includes an extensive digital library of thousands of journal titles, e-books, and academic and industry databases that you can use to research your assignments and projects. All of these materials are provided to you free of charge and contain all the research information you will need to complete your degree with us.

iLearn is also integrated with Zoom, making it easier to chat with your course instructor during your scheduled seminar sessions. You can even integrate our study materials into your Kindle, making it possible to study wherever you have your Kindle close at hand.

Studying online does not mean studying alone. As well as receiving regular feedback and guidance from your course tutor, you will study with like-minded students who you can meet through our Unitu community and you will have access to community message boards to discuss your course and the topics being raised. within it. We've even created community boards embedded in each of the course modules so you can have discussions with your tutor and classmates about the topics you're currently learning.

Entry requirements

At Arden University, we process applications on a case-by-case basis. If you have significant work experience, qualifications you have gained elsewhere, or a degree or qualification that is not a clear pathway to this degree - we are more than happy to discuss your application.

What do you need to study with us?

Our aim is to make learning as accessible as possible by ensuring that you can study your degree in a flexible and convenient way. That's why we keep our requirements simple. All you need is a laptop or desktop PC (we recommend one running the latest version of Windows) and a good internet connection. Please note that if you are using a Chromebook, only those released in 2020 and beyond will support SPSS and Jamovi, which are essential requirements for the statistical elements of the course. Through ilearn, our online university campus in the cloud, you will be able to access your course calendar, support services, teaching materials and our online library of almost half a million texts, as well as create assignments, keep notes and collaborate with other students on your course.

Eligibility

In order to study this course, we need to see that you have:

  • At least 3 x GCSEs or 45 credits at Level 2 or equivalent. If your qualifications are more than 3 years old, we may also ask to see your professional CV.
  • Applicants may be considered based on a minimum of 12 months of work experience documented by CV and reference if they do not meet the qualification requirements.
  • We also offer this course as a standard bachelor's degree without foundation year. To view the course details, pleaseclick here.

Candidates must submit a personal statement (between 350-550 words) or participate in an interview demonstrating the ability to study for the program. This statement should include:

  • Your motivation to complete the program
  • Why you have chosen your particular course
  • Any long-term goals or career aspirations

English skills

  • IELTS 6.0 (not less than 5.5 in any element); or TOEFL iBT 80; or equivalent
  • Alternatively, evidence that you have previously studied in English, such as a letter showing that the medium of instruction was in English, may be accepted.

TheBritish Psychological Society (BPS)is the representative body for psychology and psychologists in the UK. The Society is responsible for the development, promotion and application of psychology for the public good.


Arden's BSc (Hons) Psychology and MSc Psychology (Conversion) courses are accredited by the BPS. This means that students who achieve at least a lower second class honors degree (2:2) will be eligible for the society's Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership - the prerequisite for progressing to further training as a professional psychologist after graduation.
