PETER KING CLOSES BLOCKBUSTER TRADING FOR NO. 1 OVERALL CHOICE AND 2023 NFL DRAFT PREVIEW IN THIS WEEK'S 'FMIA'
"Chicago has enough for the election, assuming D.J. Moore can be the top-notch receiver Justin Fields desperately needs. Carolina called through the nose, and recent draft history is littered with lousy tradeups to the top five for quarterbacks that didn't come up.”King on the Panthers trades to the No. 1 Bears pick in the 2023 NFL Draft
“Trading to number one and picking Richardson (Florida QB Anthony) could prove brilliant. But picking Richardson number one after dealing five top-notch plays for him is a big risk.” –King on the Panthers may draw Florida QB Anthony Richardson
"This deal is an admission that the Dolphins will not be a title team unless their defense is significantly improved."King on Rams trades CB Jalen Ramsey for Dolphins
"Take the performance of the Jets over the next two years... Imagine if you were considered the best for this franchise since Joe Namath. That would be a cool way to end a great career.” –King's advice for Packers QB Aaron Rodgers

The following arehighlightsfrom this week's issue ofSoccer Mornings in America:
BEAR PANTHER TRADE
Peter King on the Panthers being drafted for the #1 Bears pick in the 2023 NFL Draft: “The prevailing opinion: Chicago has enough for the election, assumingDJ Moorecan be the primary recipientJustin Fieldsurgently needs. Carolina called through the nose, and recent draft history is littered with lousy tradeups to the top five for quarterbacks that didn't come up.”
King on the value of acquiring WR D.J. through the Bears Moore: "If you're trying to figure out Moore's relative value in the deal, keep in mind that that probably equates to a mid-round first pick - because in a bad year for receivers in the draft and certainly a wideout in the free hand area 15th-bis 20th– the best in the league with three manageable contract years entering his 26-year-old age has great value.
King on the Panthers QB preference in this year's draft: "I've heard the same rumors that everyone else has - that (the Panthers head coach)Frank Reichloves Florida QBAnthony Richardson...Trade to number one and picking Richardson could prove brilliant. But picking Richardson number one after dealing five top-notch plays for him is a big risk."
King on Alabama QB Bryce Young's chances to be drafted No. 1 by Carolina: "There probably wasn't a quarterback in college football last year who was as smart and resourceful as Young ... if (Reich) thinks Young clearly has the best prospect, he'll take him well."
King in a potentially overhauled Bears roster: “It's amazing how different the bears could look at training camp. Imagine Fields throwing at D.J. Moor outside or in the slot, with (OTOrlando)Braunto protect his blind side, and (Northwest OTPeter)Skoronskiused either as a guard or tackle as a starter on day one... This is all fantasy football, of course, but (Bears GMRyan)The rodhas the cap room and draft picks to make some plug and play decisions by May 1st.”
NEWS & NOTES
King on the Dolphins acts for CB Jalen Ramsey: “Miami will fight ifTua Tagovailoamay remain on the field for most or all of the regular season. That's a certainty. But this deal is an admission that the Dolphins won't be a title team without a significant improvement in defense.
King in this year's NFL free agency class: “The harvest, as is well documented, is the worst for several years. As one prime agent told me on Saturday, "The complete evaporation of the NFL's middle class is underway." That may be a bit dramatic, but another agent told me over the weekend he expects teams to compete more often this year than ever before – because there simply aren’t enough desirable players out there.”
King on Packers QB Aaron Rodgers: “Take the Jets gig for the next two years. Your life revolves around adventure. (Also odd, but adventurous.) Imagine if you were considered the best for this franchise sinceJoe Willie Namathoff-off-Broadway. It would be a cool way to end a great career."
King on Ravens QB Lamar Jackson: "I have no idea what Jackson is going to do - and I can't find a single team anxious to give him a fully (or almost fully) guaranteed four or five year contract."
King on 49ers QB Brock Purdy's positive elbow surgery report: "Just another reason why San Francisco doesn't overreact and spend big on a quarterback/draft. That gives tooTrey LanceA catwalk to being number one offseason, with the reps and responsibilities that entails. Good news overall for (49ers head coach)Kyle Shanahan.“
King on Saints QB Derek Carr und Seahawks QB Geno Smith: "I findDerek CarrAndGeno Smithare absolutely in the right places for them. Carr will love going on offense and maintaining talent with the Saints. Smith is the living, breathing example of a quarterback getting a golden opportunity and playing excellent football when no one thought he would."
Patriots WR Matthew Slater to King about retired Patriots S Devin McCourty: “I think it's important to acknowledge how good he was as a player. Our soccer team has had two heartbeats for a really long time —Tom[Brady] and Devin. Devin has been the only unifying voice in our defense for a long, long time."
